The antimony slag is transferred to a blast or reverberatory furnace to which is also added slags from the fuming and converter furnaces hereinafter referred to and the combined slags smelted to metal. This metal is then rough drQssed and the -tin and arsenic removed as shown by the flow sheet.
2020-11-10 China now leads the world in antimony production, having contributed during recent years something over 60 per cent, of the world’s production. The history of the antimony industry of China dates back to 1897 when the Tai Shing Co. was formed, under contract with the Hunan Bureau of Mines, for the smelting of the ore to crude; and in 1908 the Wah Chang Mining & Smelting Co. was formed for
The smelting method of the sulphide ore is the iron precipitation method and oxide ore or poor ore may also be treated by the other methods. High purity antimony (99.98% Sb) is made by electrolysis. Reverberatory furnace is used for the iron precipitation method and cottrell electric apparatus was set to catch the flue dust.
Cleaning of high antimony smelting slag from an oxygen-enriched bottom-blown was tested by direct reduction in a laboratory-scale electric furnace. The effects of added CaO, mass ratio of coal (experimental) to coal (theoretical) (ω) and the slag type on the reduction procedure were considered. The contents of Sb and Au were investigated. Iron contamination of the metal phase was analyzed as
The traditional method of producing antimony metal is through heat smelting. However, researchers at MIT claim to have accidentally stumbled upon a new method of smelting using electrolysis rather than heat. Research was funded by the US Department of Energy, the Advanced Research Projects-Energy (ARPA-E), and French energy company Total SA.
Secondary smelters can either produce a copper matte (for example Umicore [1,5]), or black copper from metallic and oxidic raw materials, such as electronic scrap [6,7,8].The present study focuses on the different stages of the latter process and illustrates experimental observations on how tin and antimony as trace elements behave in black copper smelting conditions with alumina and potassium
2013-1-16 Antimony is used in lead bullet alloys IIRC, linotype is about 84% lead, 12% antimony and the balance is tin. One issue with melting and casting is that when the metal does finally melt, it does so immediately and you can have a potentially dangerous situation if you aren't prepared for that event.
2012-4-1 Antimony reserves in China are relatively concentrated. The superlarge-, large- and medium-sized antimony deposits that have been explored are concentrated in the Guangxi (34.4%), Hunan (21.2%), Yunnan (12.2%), and Guizhou (10.2%) provinces of southwestern China . They account for 86.1% of China's total antimony reserves.
2018-11-25 Hello all I have a question for those better than myself here. I have stumbled upon a small quantity of pure antimony and i know that is what is used to harden, water-quench bullets. I tried to make a batch of hardball equivalent lead alloy (2%tin, 6%antimony, and 92% lead) and I was unable to get the antimony to melt and flux/mix in.
